I find it really weird that it's so hard to find a game of the same genre and quality of Roller Coaster Tycoon. I'm with capgamer in a sense-- RCT is not my favorite series, but I've definitely never played anything in that genre that I feel comes close to it.
I don't get the dislike for RCT3 though. I think that game is easily on par with the rest of the series.
Probably because it ran like crap on pretty much everything when it was released, which soured a lot of people to the game. It runs fabulous on current hardware these days, but I remember back when it came out it was pretty terrible.

Anyway. I don't hate Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and in fact I don't really even have many specific complaints about it, but I've definitely put a LOT less time into it and found the original RCT to be much more rewarding. I don't know what it is, since the engine in some ways was so limited in the original game and designing rollercoasters was even a bit dumb because the second you had a steep drop for more than 3 meters your guests would be like OH MY GOD I CAN'T GO ON THIS RIDE! Whatever the reason, though, the original RCT is my game of choice for this genre.
Anyway, there are a handful of Tycoon games worth playing but I do feel like most of them are older. I really liked SimGolf back in its day, and I don't know if Dungeon Keeper counts as a Tycoon game but if it does then everybody really liked the original of that game as well.
Actually, I think part of the reason why I put less time into RCT3 may be the fact that I was able to import my rollercoasters from RCT1 and that's pretty much all I did. It was too easy to cheat myself out of the experience.
