Need help installing a CPU

#1HaganPosted 4/27/2014 2:03:24 PM
I want to buy an i7 off of amazon, but I have no idea how to install it. Let alone know if it's capable with my current mb, or if I'll have the proper power supply or cooling. Is this worth taking to a professional to have done, or can I figure it out myself.

If you don't know anything about your current hardware, then being able to do it yourself will be extremely challenging. For your case it's better to take to a professional. Installing a cpu isn't easy as it looks.

Start with finding out your motherboard model. Open the case and look at the motherboard, or try downloading CPU-Z and see if it recognizes the motherboard.

IMo you should be able to do it yourself. There are plenty of installation guides on youtube.

As said above

Find out if your Motherboard is I7 compatible first. If it is, then you need thermal paste and you are set to "give it a go"

Your motherboard will need to match the "SOCKET" of an I7 cpu, if they dont match then you'd need a new mobo too.
