KoToR declared non-canon by Lucasarts - probably won't see any sequels again

In a blog post entitled "The Legendary Star Wars Expanded Universe Turns a New Page", Lucasarts have declared the 'expanded universe' of Star Wars, including Obsidian Entertainment's Knights of the Old Republic game series, as non-canon. This in itself doesn't really matter. But Lucasarts also declared a 'f*** fanfic'-policy, prohibiting the development of any non-canon products within the Star Wars universe going forward:

I suppose they could just make a new Star Wars RPG and call it something else.

Well the expanded universe stuff was actually good as far as I keep hearing.

It only diluted the main money-making arm of the franchise by making the movies look as they are: toy adverts.

Does this mean EA will be forced to take down The old Republic since nothing based on KoToR can be released for sale any more?

If so, that's hilarious. All that money down the drain forevermore. I bet EA is really having second thoughts about buying Bioware now :p

No, there was lots of garbage. You just never heard about those for obvious reasons. The number of Expanded Universe material was absolutely massive.

Some of the Expanded universe novels, like the Thrawn Trilogy were light years better than the godawful hackery of the prequel films.

What does this do for the future Star Wars battlefront CoD clone in the making?

non canon does not mean non fun. Batman Arkham games aren't canon to the comics but that doesn't mean that we should disregard it. The old storylines are still continuing and all that changes is that the movies won't reference them.
