I haven't had time for an MMO in a while now and was thinking of either getting back into one I've played before or restarting on something new. Since I haven't played in a while, I'm not sure which games still have a decent amount of players and consistent support. I wouldn't mind a subscription similar to how it's used in LotRO where you can pay and basically commit to the game and have all the content unlocked, or instead choose to just unlock quest packs/content with in-game points or pay with single purchases while you're still forming an opinion on the game (and even grind for in-game currency to keep from spending actual money if you care to).

I'm really only familiar with the first two games I listed in the poll, so any explanation on what sets any of these apart from the others or why it may be better would be appreciated.

I've heard TERA is pretty good. I still need to check that one out. I started playing Rift and Anarchy Online a while ago, and they seem pretty cool, too. Other than that, I really don't know much about free MMOs, or just MMOs in general.

The Old Republic because I know what Star Wars is and anything else isn't worth the time if it hasn't been around for at least a decade through movies, games, comic books, Disneyland rides etc.

As far as how much it lets you play without a subscription probably LotRO. I'd say SWTOR is a better MMO though, maybe.

Guild Wars 2 is best though... Has the one-time purchase fee but that's it

GW2 is my favorite.

It feels more like something like Baldur's Gate than an MMO though.

Life is normally too short to purposely seek out things you hate, but apparently that rule doesn't apply on the Xbox One board.

Guild Wars 2 >>> Tera >>>Rift. Those are the three I've played and once you get into it, Guild Wars 2 is the best, but it has flaws. Tera is pretty good too, it's not far behind GW2

Blade and Soul. There's an English patch that isn't too thorough but its enough to play it.

It's not out yet, but Archeage. I'm in the alpha and it's the most fun I've had in MMO since SWG and that was 10 years and about 15 MMO's ago for me.
