How the hell do people stream so much when the highest data cap is 250GB?

Still stuck on WildBlue. Been waiting for something better for years. I can't get Charter and when I ask why, they say I can already get it and point to a map of exaggerated coverage. People up the road get Charter and U-Verse and I pay over twice as much for something infinitely worse.

Well I live like 5 miles out of town (small town though ~800 people) and the cutoff for Road Runner was like 2 miles down the road from me so I dealt with that for a while. But the only reason the other ISP expanded out was because the got some pretty decent federal grants (one was for 1.2Million, then there was 2 more in the hundred thousands) to expand out to areas that aren't covered by any existing land-based ISP.

The day they limit my internet usage is the day I stop using the internet.

While I don't have a cap where I am right now, 250GB/month is plenty of data. I've been tracking my download usage for fun I guess and since September I've used about 760GB alone which comes to 95GB per month and I watch movies and YouTube in HD a lot so unless you have a house full of people who are heavy internet users or do absolutely nothing with your life, I would think you should be able to cope with that cap.

That being said is it fair for there to be a cap on internet usage is another debate so don't try and claim I am in favour of internet caps or anything based on this post.

My cap is 150GB I believe. I only came close to hitting it once, when I was downloading like 5 of my Steam games at the same time on my new (Now dead) computer, then downloading a bunch of torrents including a 22GB one in the same few weeks.

Yikes. Seems like you'd hit that cap with just basic we-browsing. I routinely hit my ISP's 250 limit with just the occasional game download and streaming.

Taking away, limiting or interfering with people's internet is as dangerous and politically suicidal as taking away guns is in the States. No joke. There would be riots. Net neutrality is actual law after a telecom operator just hinted at charging for instant messaging. Politicians made their career with standing up for internet rights.

Politicians don't even understand basic civil rights, let alone Internet rights. They make their living curtailing those rights in favor of corporate interests.

No cap, but streaming at 1.5Mbps makes me sad, so I don't do it very often.
