Why shouldn't we use ad blockers?

I forgot how ugly the internet is without adblocker when I was playing with a new browser. It's like someone spiiled a drink and put stickers all of the book your reading.

I'm not contractually obligated with my ISP or any other party to view ads. Also, if gfaqs gets shut down (or adds a sub fee for certain things), there surely will be plenty of sites that will take its place. They are part of a titanic multimedia corporation, it's their problem to find ways to monetize their site, not the users'.

For example, I would pay to have throwback mode re-enabled.

I don't mind ads

But the ads that automatically start playing a clip in your browser with sounds make me ******** angry. This one Nivea ad with a child from hell is really ******* me off at the moment. I will never ever buy a nviea anything again.

For sites like these, you can just lol since they have no fear of closing down due to not enough ad revenue (being owned by CBS and all). It really only matters on smaller sites where they'd be hosting out of pocket otherwise. And there are actually a scant few sites round the net that have relevant/useful ads, apparently.

Lol if CBS doesnt see profit on this site they will close it down. So pretty much by using adblock you are sending the message that you want gamefaqs or other websites to be shutdown, or for them to add a subscription fee.

CBS should pull the plug on GameFAQs.

CBS should pull the plug on GameSpot.

Actually tracking can mean higher prices for your hotel room or flight. Not cool. Also maintaining gamefaqs is not that expensive surely? User generated content. Hell I would give the guy who wrote the persona3 fes social link guide 5$ if he needed it.

Seriously, does anybody think here at all? How do you think sites like GameFAQs run? You do realize hosting and maintaining websites, especially that generate this much traffic, cost money. You already use this site and many others like it all for free. They need to generate revenue to keep alive. You blocking ads essentially blocks the money coming in to pay for such things.

On the point of the paranoia tracking complaints: really? Out of the billion+ users of the internet, do you really think there are people out there who are focused on tracking you and your torrenting of porn? No, nobody cares, they have bigger fish to fry.

Being tracked is being tracked. Some people care, some people don't. Your whole argument is subjectively based, so it's irrelevant. Carry on for the rest of us.

They only get revenue from clicks right? I would never click on ads anyway, so i might as well block them. I don't understand how websites make much money from ads (other than youtube ones), since i didn't think anyone would actually click on them

So? Disable ad-block for the sites you support.

To be honest I don't care about gamefaqs. I just come here because guide makers submit content here. If they went somewhere else I'd leave. Gamefaqs going down would force guide makers to post somewhere else, so I'd be glad actually. I think I'd go to Neoseeker, I hear the boards there don't treat their users like toddlers.
