OK, but why??? And I hate the randomness of CoD! Plus I suck at it. Maybe I should avoid Counter Strike then!
If you're bad at CoD you will probably be awful at Counter Strike, at least to start with. Higher skill floor, and a skill ceiling so high you can't even see it from a CoD lobby. That's part of the appeal.
It also requires some semblance of tactics alongside the shooting skill. If you just run in alone and try to do everything yourself like you might in CoD, you're just going to die.
Counter-Strike just happens to be a much more skillful game, but despite teh fact that I hate them all, I hate Counter-Strike far more than others.
Sure, CoD tends to sacrifice a lot of things for casuals, but Counter-Strike is just obnoxious in every of its design to me. Its good if you like to be ridiculously competitive, but as a fun side MP game I have never had an ounce of fun playing it.
The shooting. High skill-ceiling. Tightly balanced maps and weapons. Lack of point showers, unlocks, and other instant gratification mechanics.
I never got into CoD, but the main reason I'm content with CS is because Valve games are supported for several years and even decades, while Call of Duty and Battlefield games are more or less obsolete after a year of being out.
