The last one I've played is MW1, so I've been out of the scene. Which one is generally thought to be better for multiplayer?

BO2 was a decent game, MW3 took a colossal dump all over the series. Neither has a particularly high player count these days.

Neither--find a game series that doesn't suck.

Honestly since MW2 the only "decent" game had been BLOPS2 (good enough in gameplay, mechanics, killstreaks and graphics)

Whatever you do, donīt buy Ghosts, it runs like crap on PC (And I have 2 good PCs and it runs good in none)

That said any CoD game that is not MW1/2 are very crappy games, nerfed to hell thanks to anti-noobtube crybabies, very unoptimized for PC (as they are mere console ports), no dedicated servers in most cases, no steamworks or mods compatibility, no controller compatibility, etc...

but if you HAVE to play some CoD let it be BLOPS2 (and yes I own all these games and know what I am talking about)

I actually enjoyed BLOPS 2 multiplayer. There were a few caveats that really bothered me (mainly, overabundance of small and cluttered maps), but a lot of the new mechanics I thought were huge improvements, particularly gametype improvements.

The big issue with me for BO2 was we ended up with more game types than players. They need to do some pruning on the game types. They also need to bring back player controlled servers.

I do have to agree with this. Whenever I was on, there were, at most, 5,000 concurrent players. Domination typically had ~300-500 players in it, and it was probably the second or third most popular gametype.

So is MW2 still worth it? I played some of it on PS3 ages ago and I liked it with all of its crazy stuff. I keep hearing that it's plagued with cheaters, but these claims always end up being massively exaggerated with most games anyway.

^I couldn't find a single clean lobby on PS3 last week. I really doubt it's any different on PC, sadly.
Apparently the 360 version is mostly hack free nowadays.
