Any way to open photos on Windows 8 without the dumb app?

The app takes forever and is just annoying to deal with.

I wish it was like Windows 7 where you click a photo and it just opens..not this dumb app crap.

That is one reason why I just stick with Windows 7.
I hate a lot of the changes in Windows 8. It's harder to get things set up perfectly in it than Windows 7.

Well, for one, if you've updated to 8.1 - or maybe 8.1.1, not sure - it should change the defaults to the desktop programs automatically, unless your device is a tablet.

If you can't upgrade and / or the defaults weren't changed, go to "PC Settings" (either by using the "Settings" charm and "Change PC Settings" or the "PC Settings" start tile - both go to the same place), and on the right go "Search and Apps", "Defaults", and change at will.

It's a simple fix:
Right Click > Open with > Choose default program... > Windows Photo Viewer

Just change the default application. A lot of the complaints about Windows 8 are about things that can easily be changed if you know how, and if not, they're just a Google search away.

No it's not. You can make it look exactly like Windows 7 with a few clicks.
