How do you feel about Escort segments in video games?

Escort missions are the bane of any game if the NPC getting killed means Game Over. It's just bad design... like, really, get a clue devs. Nothing annoys me more than goddamn escort quests.

They need to die in a fire. Either the NPC is slow and it takes forever or the NPC is an idiot and dies easily. There are no fun escort missions. Worse than QTE.

Awful. Never had one where I've thought, "huh, well that wasn't so bad". Not once.

They are usually meh. The one in Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was a lot of fun though. The escort mission in Saints Row The Third was interesting ;)

Depends if it''s a game over screen if NPC dies. If it's like extra xp or something minor, I have fun getting them in trouble :p

I usually can't stand escort quests. To me they're time consuming and take you away from the rest of the game. I can't recall an escort quest where I actually had fun.

Is that a sandwich... or an assassin?

Eh, escorting something like a giant space carrier is pretty fun. Escorting something like a car that can be destroyed right away never is. The most frustrating type gamemode but games like TF2's payload are pretty fun.

There used to be an early WoW quest that had an escort quest that took like 20 minutes to complete. Which, if you were on a PvP server, could prove to be difficult. Thankfully it was in an out of the way zone and not heavily trafficked. It was still a pain in the ass.

That said, I hate them.

I'm trying to remember...that wasn't the one in Un'Goro Crater where you had to escort that stupid goblin that kept fainting from the mountain in the middle of the zone all the way to the settlement at the northern part of the zone?

Abyway, as stated before, f*** them, they can all die in a fire.

It was fun in Resident Evil 4. When you move, Ashley moves right behind you. When you shoot, she ducks. When you tell her to hide, she hides. It simply worked and it was fun.

Every other game ever does it wrong though and

Ringo was his name. I believe it's still in the game in a shorter version as the camp is now closer.
