Ningishzida is going full fedora with his console gamer hate and claiming Deus Ex and Fallout are not FPS games.

Because they're FPRPGS... in which things rely on STATS AND BEHIND THE SCENES MOTHER F***ING DICE ROLLS.
Seriously. What the hell is the problem with some of you?

So what makes them an FPS exactly? That it's played from first person and has guns? Oh but wait, Fallout 3 can be played from 3rd person. Oh darn.

But all Deus Ex games are first person perspective games with guns. Guns that shoot.

Is Shadow Warrior not an FPS because it has a sword?

Is Doom not an FPS because you have fists?

The difference is that Deus Ex gives you equally viable ways to play the game outside of guns. You can melee, you can go demolitions, you can stealth. All can lead to the solution of the same problem, though they may take a different route. And your chances of success aren't dependent solely on your "twitch skills" (ie, reflexes), but also on whether you've invested in stats, skills and augmentations that directly correspond to that mode of play or ROLE. You'd know this, if you weren't so ignorant of how Deus Ex differs from Doom.

FPS games rely on RNG rolls to determine whether they hit too. The bullets have damage values also. How did you think Doom worked years ago?

The only game I can think of that actually models the bullets you shoot and lets them hit wherever is Far Cry 3.

In that game you can actually sweep a machine gun across a room quickly and kill a bunch of guys complete with bullet holes in between. In most FPS games, damage is only calculated when the reticle is right over the enemy.

Fallout is clearly designed to be played in first person.

Have you ever gone through Deus Ex HR on this is Deus Ex without cheesing it with stealth and save states? That makes Battlefield 2 look quaint and moderately paced by comparison.

It's also designed to be played as an RPG. Not a First Person Shooter. And actually the stealth mechanics and melee mechanics work better in 3rd person. As wonky as the animations are.

If a game allows me to aim my weapon to the extent of being able to ADS I damn well expect it to behave as a shooter
