...I can independently adjust the game/video volume and chat (Skype) volume? I tried hooking my 360 TB headset but I can't independently adjust the chat volume and the video volume, it just adjusts both of them together.

Are you saying that's not standard for PC headsets? All console headsets are like that and it's pretty convenient, so I assumed it would be a pretty common thing for PC headsets

He's saying that you'd get better quality stuff if you got a pair of real Headphones and a separate mic. Headsets are a gimmick designed to make you pay more money for less quality.

How would you use headphones and a chat mic at the same time though?

A pc operating system will allow you to adjust the headphone volume and the mic volume seperately. Any chat program worth a damn will also have volume adjustments galore.

To clarify, in windows, just right click the volume icon and select 'mixer'. You can then change the volume of each individual program.

Computers generally have a separate microphone jack alongside the normal headphone jack.

Right, but... what I mean is how would you wear the headphones and then wear the mic too?

You can find both clip on mics and ones that go between the headset and the headphone cable for headsets with detachable cables. There are also microphones with stands that you would put on your desk.
