With 1080p monitor, i'm not interested in 4K right now.

Must also handle most of the current games at high settings and last me at least 5 years.

Do you have a PC currently? Do you need Windows, mouse/keyboard, and/or speakers?

I have a laptop.

I also have a desktop, but it's outdated and besides the rest of my family uses it.

So in short, let's say that no.

If you need a monitor, Windows, mouse/keyboard & speakers, you're not going to realistically be able to build a 1080p machine that's going to last "at least 5 years" at high settings.

Those things on their own are pushing $250.

So then, how much do you exactly calculate?.

I'm not going to give you an "exact" number because prices can obviously vary depending on what deals you find, what sites you go to, etc.

But if you're talking about needing all of those things and you as you say want to be able to play at 1080p for at least 5 years, you're going to be pushing $1,000. This is just a VERY quick and easy guestimate from me, not putting much of your budget into unnecessary things:

- Monitor: $140
- Windows: ~$80
- Mouse/Keyboard: $50
- Speakers: $30
- Case: $30
- Power Supply: $60
- Motherboard: $70
- CPU: $200
- GPU: $250 (probably more)
- RAM: $100
- Hard Drive: $70

So that's right around $1,000, and it probably would end up being a little more than that. To cover your 5 year request, you're going to be spending more on the GPU. Same with RAM, probably.

No such thing as a 5 year build. Better get a budget build now then after 3~4 years then buy a new one.

Challenge accepted.

Better CPU (not overclockable) good CPU upgrade path; weaker GPU

Better GPU; weak CPU upgrade path, weaker CPU (overclockable; this build doesn't include aftermarket cooling)
