Anything you like at any price. Doesn't matter for sitting on Facebook while in class and using MS Word.

This pretty much.

Unless you are going to school for graphic design or something where you're going to be doing serious video editing then you can get just about anything.

If you have money to spend (which I would assume you would since you mentioned a MacBook) look into the MSI GS60 GHOST. Its pricey at $1799 but it's thin, light, and powerful. Otherwise look into a Lenovo or Asus if you just want power rather than form. Despite the hate, Alienwares aren't really THAT bad either, but they're significantly overpriced.

After taking what you guys said into consideration and mulling it over on my own, I think I'm gonna get an Asus.

What model/type would you guys recommend?

What is the most intensive thing you're going to run on it?

I don't think I'm going to do anything too demanding. Mostly schoolwork and surfing the web, I guess. Maybe stream TV shows if I get a Netflix account.

In addition, I wasn't really planning on using it for gaming. It'd be nice if it could, but I guess I can live without it if it drives up the price too much.

I can spend up to a $1000 with the money I've saved up from work.

Any specific reason you want an Asus laptop?

Get the Asus X202LA. If you're not going to game might as well get something portable and cheaper than a Macbook.
