Clown, lately I am waiting over a minute to boot from the password page and it is seriously being slow on all apps, games included. Do you think this may be a good idea for me to use?

Also I have a 5200 RPM HD, I bet it will take days to check aha.

Yes.

Thanks for the information. Haven't had any obvious issues but it did fail the check and I'm currently applying the listed fix. Suppose it can't hurt anything.

Just another minor note; 'dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth' without the first forward slash.

edit: Also it only took about 20 minutes to do both operations. In the background as well so its hardly an inconvenience in my case. Not sure what was wrong with the above poster taking 2 days to do the scan but I'm sure that isn't anywhere near the norm. Perhaps an SSD makes a large difference but even still shouldn't be that influential.

You're right, thanks for the correction on the command.

Also, like you said you're experiencing, the corrupt files sometimes appear to cause no issue at all. On the other hand the problems can be pretty random, usually slowness and crashing but I've seen it just cause MS Office apps to crash when trying to save documents over and over and also just cause the PC not be able to detect a 2nd monitor when it had been previously able to.

It really doesn't take long so if you're on Windows 8, like you said you should just do it and you can do it in the background while you're doing other things, even during the repair.

How often should we check for this problem?

I can't speak in ultimate terms but its been about 7 months since the 8.1 update, so in my case, 6 months hasn't been too bad. Maybe more, maybe less. If you see some wonky symptoms it might be a good idea to at least run the scan as an additional troubleshooting technique.

Its happened to me personally 3 times since I've had my laptop I got in March. It happened twice in one week actually. However, for myself its been pretty evident the 2nd two times because I usually start getting random BSODs and I can't get my laptop to detect my 2nd monitor when I'm in the office.

Not sure if you were experiencing any symptoms like slowness etc but if you weren't I would probably check monthly.
