Suddenly I can not access Steam Store? - What gives?

#1YumeOMiruPosted 6/6/2014 3:25:38 AM(edited)
For almost a week now, I canīt access the Steam Store, be it via the steam application (get code 118) or browsers (chrome, Firefox, get message that they canīt connect to the server).

I can access the steam community and my library, but not the store. Weirdly enough, Steam store works just dandy if I change my IP with VPN, or if I connect from anywhere else but my home IP.

Another thing, it all works dandy if I access the page via google translate...............

So what gives? Already sent a ticket to steam, but we all know that will take a while.

Anyone experienced this before? I have not done anything with my network settings nor remember any other changes on my PC recently.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Yep, strange. I had it just a few days ago but it only lasted for a day and then it resolved on its own. Could be a port issue.

Anything I can do about it, the port issue that is?

I was just speculating about that. Earlier I had opened ports for Minecraft, but that's most likely unrelated since the issue resolved itself.

Try pinging the Steam store's IP, a router or your ISP could be blocking it for some reason.

That's what came up when I searched for it... of course the main Topic creator later said it just resolved itself, but you may want to read through it for some ideas on what could be wrong.

That post in particular says that code 118 is a timeout which means that it's probably firewall or proxy related.
