The only computers in my house that get turned off are laptops and even then some times they're on overnight, cause you know, Gentoo.

All depends. I usually shut down every night but sometimes I'll forget. Sometimes in downloading a game or doing a batch render and it is pinned on for days. Just depends.

If it's for the night, I turn it off. I take sporadic naps throughout the day, though, and I'll leave it on for those.

I turn it off when I leave for work or will be gone for days. Otherwise it stays on. Never have issues and my PC components last for years until I replace them for substantial upgrades.

The main reason I turn it off during the day is that I power everything down for the day to not waste power. Which is odd considering I'm not frugal with anything else. I just have this weird rivalry with myself. I look at my power consumption/bill from the previous year and try to beat it. Seems to work out nicely as my power bill is in the $50-$60 range outside of the summer (need dat AC).

Shut down when I go down for the night or leave the house, and sleep when I'm just taking a break.

The difference in power usage between a sleeping PC and an off PC is negligible

This is true, however, the bright, obnoxious, and strobing power light on my pc and laptop is very annoying. I think Asus just likes to annoy people.

How long is 'a while'? If I'm done for the night I'll put it to sleep. If I'm going to be gone for the weekend or longer I'll shut it all the way down.

This is the correct answer.
