So how do you feel about the steam box?

Personally for that price wouldn't you be better off with a PC? And I hear the steam box is upgrade-able is that true?

Some roads you shouldn't go down because maps used to say there'd be dragons there. Now they don't, but that don't mean the dragons aren't there.

For that price, I'd consider putting it under my TV. I like it.

The Alienware Alpha is upgradeable. Everything except its GPU, because you're certainly not cramming a GTX 780 into that box. The custom GPU is supposed to be based on Maxwell.

I see no point with it. That Alienware Steam Box is expensive and weak. And there's just so many games that doesn't work on Linux.

Ok I missed that bit, but one can ask why it's even being called a Steam Box then

The reason it's shipping with Windows is because SteamOS will not be ready for release before their steambox. Without delaying their own hardware, this is the only option.

I thought it was dumb too until I realised it's because Valve is dragging their heels on reskinning Debian.

Just a term that is being used to describe tiny console-like PC running PC games.

Kinda like people naming products by a brand name, instead of its actual name. Even if it isn't that brand.

It also sounds like Alienware has teamed up with Valve to do this. So, there's that. SteamOS isn't shipping with it (it simply isn't ready), but it may in the future.

The point of the exercise is to get the concept out there and into people's heads so that by the time i gels it'll already have a foothold. Same thing they did with Steam itself.
