I'm really beginning to like Origin.

Clearly I'm secretly the new EA president. Either that or I have an ounce of common sense

Some roads you shouldn't go down because maps used to say there'd be dragons there. Now they don't, but that don't mean the dragons aren't there.

So, again, why does Origin need to exist?

And no one complains about it as a store, so that's irrelevant, it's the pointless client.

As for why they have their own launcher it's simple, why pay a middleman for services you can do in house cheaper? Pissing off powerless internet nerds is very apparently less costly than giving Valve a cut of the profits for doing nothing in particular.

...Steam shouldn't have a stranglehold on the digital distribution market. It stifles the economy.

Please explain how the economy was stifled before Origin, and how the release of Origin un-stifled the economy.

Which doesn't explain why the CLIENT has to exist instead of just the STORE that was previously also selling retail games. When was the last time you heard someone say "oh I'm not buying that game ic it doesn't use Origin". The client gains them NOTHING, while actively bleeding people who refuse to use iy, all while doing something they could do more efficiently without it. K.

Why so derpy bro?

The client is the DRM, the DRM is the reason it exists. The storefront is an afterthought. Sort of like Steam was when Valve actually developed games instead of taking a cut of hat sales. As for the minority of people who claim they won't buy the games that use Origin, EA gives just about as many ****s about them as Valve did the people who "boycotted" HL2 back in the day because it required Steam. We all know who won that little standoff now don't we?

While the client itself is actually pretty good the main gripe is that most people hate redundancy.

IMO the only publisher that should have its own client is blizzard since they are strictly PC games.

Hell other than the frequency that it forces you to logout I would say that origin as a client is better than steam.

I understand why EA/Ubi have their own launchers and it doesn't bother me.

You do? Please, share you insights with the rest of the class.

Because believe it or not, Valve doesn't let all these games be available on Steam for free. They take up to 30% of a game's sales for themselves. Why should Ubi or EA want to pay that when they can just have their own launchers? And if through their own sales and stuff they can get people to buy other games on their launcher, now they are making a cut on every game sold.

So, tell my why shouldn't they have their own launcher?
