New to PC gaming; what is my bottleneck?

MD Vishera FX-8350

Just curious. The AMD Vishera FX-8350 is compatible with my motherboard?

And it would be a significant leap, correct?

Finally, what other "things" do I need to buy with the CPU?

It will leap tremendously,
I think it will fit your MB, based on the socket AM3

I think that's enough except if you want to upgrade the graphic card and memory.

or buy 9590 for max performance.

Lack of intel processor.

It is well known that the hard disk is the biggest bottleneck.

Sounds good.

I don't really want to upgrade my GFX as I just picked this one up last week.

Two more questions:

1) If I DID upgrade my grx card later, would I virtually have a "high end" PC capable o f maxing out most games? The CPU seems to be one of the "best" from AMD, so I'm wondering if I'd be set for a while if I DID decide to upgrade the GPU at some point down the line.

2) What else do I need to pick up for the 8350? Cooler? Power supply?

If it were intel and nvidia it won't need an added cooler, except if you are OC-ing it.
Maybe you need one for a built based on AMD.
Maybe you need a PSU about 500++ - 1000 Watt,
maybe 700 watt enough.

I *think* I picked up an Antec PSU way back when I first picked up an 8800GT (which died on me :( ).

Is there a way to check my wattage?

Also, because it's not Intel, does anyone know if I'd need an additional cooling device?

After that, it's just plug n' play, right?

Just to clarify a few things.

The AMD 8350 is an AM3+ socket cpu, not AM3. You can use AM3 and AM3+ cpu's in an AM3+ board, but not an AM3+ cpu in an AM3 board.

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T is the highest benchmarked processor for the AM3 motherboard you have, but I'm not 100% sure if you can still buy them at the store, and the last price I could find was $400. Which would be too high.

Having a look at your system, seems like a decent enough to run Dolphin, but I'm also wondering about how many Watts your power supply has. It should be on the side of the actual PSU when you remove the side from your computer. "500W" for example.

That's important because if you have something in the 200 to 300 watt range, parts are not getting enough power, causing them to be sluggish.

dang, i was ready to pull the purchase trigger...

so what are my options for a motherboard then?

I have NO idea how to change a motherboard, and I'm using the HPE-400f stock case, so...

Well first things first, how many Watts is your power supply?

I'm not at home, but i'm sure it's at least 450w.

Hmm, well if it is 450W, then your parts should be getting enough power.

The 750ti is rated at 60W, the X4 945 cpu at 125W. Of course, all the other parts take power too, so hopefully you don't have some flashy strobe light system in there. lol

When you get home, double check, if it's any less than 450W, that could be the issue.

As for Dolphin itself, what you have should be able to run it, but you may want to actually look at some settings in the program itself. Such as:

Open Dolphin
Click Options
Graphics Settings
Backend: Try different ones, but DirectX 9 might be best.

Then go to Options
DSP Settings
Should be set to (fast)
If the audio is laggy, check the Audio Backend on that tab as well.

On the DSP Settings still, go to the General tab
Make sure "Enable Dual Core" and "Enable Idle Skipping" are both checked.

That should help, without having to upgrade anything, provided your power supply is 450W or higher.
