Steam question- gifting old Skyrim?

#1ian2093Posted 6/21/2014 10:15:21 AM
So I'm sure you've all had time to fume over how the Skyrim DLC is more expensive than buying the entire legendary edition, so my question is, am I able to gift a friend my copy of Skyrim even though I've logged a bazillion hours into it and then me myself buy the legendary edition so I would have the same game but with the DLC?

And then this is just somewhat related, if I were to buy the legendary edition, would it show up as a separate game in my library or would the DLC that comes with it just be applied to Skyrim?

Can't be done. Steam is fairly nice about there sales, but they're not going to let you give away the code you already active, to someone else. Just bite the bullet and rebuy the Legendary edition or wait for the Winter Sale where it will be even lower priced.

I mean that's what you can do with every physical game. But regardless, do you know if it will be a separate game? I guess it's not that much of an issue, but it's kinda like having DotA 2 Test in my library.

Steam will basically overwrite your vanilla retail code with the LE skyrim edition, unfortunately unless the steam page specifically states you get extra gift copies your friend is SOL.

There are ways around this problem though, for instance you could just share your entire steam library with your friend (if you trust him enough) via steam family sharing
