I now have a bit more than a dollar, but I'm inclined to ask: who the heck is buying them, and why?

If it isn't obvious, I'm completely oblivious to the whole trading card thing. Is this a thing people do? I'm not complaining at all, I just made a buck doing nothing. Huzzah!

people buy your cards to complete their foil pack for whatever game you're selling for, to increase their steam level and pimp out their steam profile.

I don't pay them much mind either, I just sell my spares but since I refuse to buy any cards to complete my sets all my assorted cards end up rotting in my inventory which kinda sucks

This. Demand for cards has gone up dramatically because of this event.

I put up a lot of cards and duplicates that I normally have trouble selling and woke up with 2 in my Steam wallet.
