I found a old piece of news that Sims 4 was planned to be a online game then scrapping it which may explain the lack of features not sure if its true or not

I didn't really like the open worldness of Sims 3, it made it hard to focus on your sims and there was no way of turning it off. I may be in the minority but I prefer the lot restrictions of Sims and Sims 2.

This Sims 3 was hardly a progression and the "open-world" (The one open world I might add) was utter ass. If the system is reverting to a state where you can actually create the world, instead of playing in the worlds EA assigns you, then good riddance.

Exactly, you have download a seperate program to fill a function Sims 2 did in house . Like I said, utter ass.

This is one of the MANY reasons why I still play The Sims 2: it did everything BETTER if compared to The Sims 1, instead of getting worse.

The Sims 2 is still one of the best games ever made, specially with the Open for Business expansion. ^^

And RAM is basically not a concern anymore, you can use as much as you want.

Well, let's not forget that The Sims 4 will have a 32-bit executable.

The funny thing is that TS3 was in no way complex enough for the Open World to warrant lagging. Especially since the AI didn't really even do very much unless you were on a lot, in which case they would swarm that lot. If they just coded the game better, it would run just fine with an open world.

I enjoyed having an open world for two main reasons. One is that I liked being able to have one sim out and about while another was at home. The other was already mentioned by another poster: The load times when switching between lots in TS2 was unacceptable. It could sometimes take more than a minute to switch from one lot to another in TS2, which totally broke up the pace of play and pretty much just made me never want my sims to leave home.

I was really surprised that wasn't an expansion for 3, it really added a lot to 2.

From some recent research, Maxis does not develop The Sims anymore. The game is developed by The Sims Studio, under than EA Maxis name. Maxis is a separate entity from parent company EA, however, The Sims Studio is a division of EA. So it appears EA is to blame for this and anything else to do with The Sims, good or bad.

It's not like there's any real difference any more now that Will Wright is no longer a part of it. I'm sure that there are very few original members of Maxis and "The Sims Studio" could just be a splintered off fraction of the people from Maxis (unless you researched the names of everyone involved).

At this point they could name their dev team "big giant arse" and it wouldn't make any difference to me. Then again that's pretty much true of most developers bought up by EA. It's a sometimes slow process but eventually all the originality and personality gets sucked out of them, and when there's nothing left, EA discards them.

There have been 5 main Sims games including Online and Medieval, disregards consoles ports and what not. Only 2/5 of these have been open world, pretty accurate to me. :P
