steam card traders don't make sense =/

they will trade 1:1 for same set cards (like one magicka card for one magicka card) but if you want to trade another set (say Trine for Magicka) the price jumps up to two of your cards for one of their's. =/ how does that make sense?

It's supply and demand. They have the supply, you have the demand. 1:1 for the same set is understandable because some people want to swap out their dupes to get closer to having a full set, but 1:2 comes into play because you're taking one of the cards away from that potential badge and they feel you need to charge more out of you to balance the transaction.

Or just profit off of you, but I only do 1:1 same-badge trades so I dunno.

Obviously they want to make a set by trading away dupes, not by trading away cards they could be using to make another badge.

If it's that much of an issue, use the market, buy the cards you want, and sell the cards you don't want.

it seems to be both. I can understand trading a way singles but not when you have doubles or more. It's annoying cause they're obviously just being greedy/wanting a profit. I wouldn't care as much if I was better at trading. =/

I think the obvious answer is don't trade with those people. There are people who will do 1:1 as long as the prices match up.

that makes more sense. sure it might end up being more than 2:1 but it makes more sense.

This is pretty much how it is in every "Trading" situation, except when you're dealing with friends. Everyone wants to make a profit, and most of that is because the "game" valve invented requires people to either seek to make a profit or forever have half the cards required to make a badge.

The only time you can afford to be more generous is when you've hit the high levels where your next booster pack is just a week away at most., and even then you're not guaranteed to get a good booster pack.

Anyway, especially when it comes to Gamefaqs, I've seen people whine and moan that other people are trying to get a profit through a trade and then they put up trades that mean profit for themselves. It's ok when THEY do it, just not everyone else.

What profit? As frivolous as TF2 and Dota2 trading can be, there is something there to be made. With cards, we're talking pennies.

Depends on the game. I've seen some cards where the average card can sell for 40 cents, I've seen some games where they have emotes that sell for $15. I'm not saying people are going to get rich off of this stuff... I'm just saying that if you trade 1:1 for everything then at best you'll have half of what you need to make a badge and you'll be waiting for booster pack drops, which at low levels may be 1 pack every 6 months.

This is why you either use the market, deal with friends, or you find a site like http://www.steamcardexchange.net/ and hope you can find what you need there.
