It's 2014. Why is migrating from one PC to another still such a pain in the ass?

Yeah, it is easy to migrate everything in 2014

Lightweight programs get bundled in with relevant folders and transferred like documents.

Important programs should get a fresh install anyway.

Other stuff, install when you need it. I consider lack of bloat a benefit of clean OS installs...

This

Tc isn't a software engineer with a bunch of language modules, vpn clients and vm stuff to install.

Download your browser, your media player and your itunes or whatever and you're done. Osx and windows both download drivers automatically and have done that since like 2003.

Except for critical hardware (motherboard, GPU, sound etc.), the drivers they automatically download are often woefully out of date.

Or you're taking it too seriously

I never found it hard. Just 3 steps.

1. Just copy my files over. (doc, mp3, pics/vids, and favs)
2. Export/Backup from programs. (outlook or other)
3. Reinstalled programs, then import/restore.

Buying a external drive makes it even easy, NAS even easier. Everyone should have some kind of backup storage.

Bit harsh and surely uncalled for.

well it's not a pain for me. I keep all my important stuff backed up on external drives for safe keeping. I keep all my movies, music, pictures and games backed up so for some reason I need to either wipe windows or building a new tower I can just pull all the data back off the drives.

It literally takes me like a day to get my computer back to what im used to working with.I usually do a fresh install of windows once a year.
