Which GPU should I keep?

#1HappyLizardPosted 7/8/2014 11:48:14 AM
Ok, so I have my main rig atm:

i5 2500k
16gb RAM
128mb SSD
550w Antec HCG
x-fire 6850's

I'm about to dismantle my scrypt mining rig, which contains:

XFX DD 7970
Sapphire 7950 Vapor-x
Asus 7950 Direct CUII TOP

Which card should I keep for my main rig for gaming?

I'm kinda torn between all 3 for various reasons.

I also have a NZXT 1200w Hale 90 PSU in the mining rig that I could use in my main rig, but this would prob be overkill?

Get a used 290/290x? They are dirt cheap on ebay.

I'll prob just keep one of the three I have as, well, I already have them and it's one less i have to bother selling... I'm not that fussed about getting the ultimate performance, just the best of what I have.

Either the Vapor X or the 7970 I'd say. Don't know much about the Asus

The asus is a 3 slot card with an epic cooler that keeps it cold and silent, the XFX is a 7970 but they run hot, are quite noisy and are voltage locked

sell all 5 and get a 780/290

As I said I just wanna keep the 'best' card that I have, sell the othes and pocket the cash.

Then the best card is the XFX 7970 which should come with a lifetime warranty. That's what I would go with considering the cards were in a mining rig their life expectancy must have been greatly reduced.

Asus 7950.
I'd rather have a cool and quite card.
On top of that I'm sure it would overclock to equal the 7970 or better and still run at a good temp.

Does a 7970 equate into much actual real world performance boost over a 7950 when gaming? as if not I'd favour the asus over the xfx

FYI I'm mainly playing Sniper Elite 3 atm

Also I think the xfx 7970 is more power hungry than a 7950, and with a 550w psu could be somewhat maxing it out?
