The Sims 2 Resolution issues

#1ZazabarPosted 7/16/2014 7:58:11 PM
I realize I could've gone to one of The Sims boards, but eh.

Long story short, anyone who owns any digital copies of The Sims 2 on Origins was given an upgrade to The Sims 2 Ultimate, which is basically a package of every expansion pack ever released. I went and installed it and was excite.

I know the issues with the Sims 2 and its resolution and going to the config file, but I don't know which one to edit, being there are tons of expansion packs. I load the game and see the pet one, so I edit that one to 1920x1080, and it's still only at 800x600.

I just decide to edit all of them and I still am not getting my desired resolution. Am I missing something here?

You need the file Graphics rules.sgr and in settings low/mid/high areas of the file, change the width and height to 1920/1080. I believe you need to do it in the Graphics Rules.sgr file of the pets expansion, if that's the one you see when the game loads.

I made that change in every subfolder in "Fun with Pets" and it's still at the wrong resolution. I don't get it.

Try it with Bon Voyage.

BV tends to be the one the game defaults as the actual "main" folder, even if the loading screen says its something different like Pets. If that fails, just edit every single one you find.

I've already done that, and it's still at 800x600.

I think it's because I changed every value to 1920x1080, not just the max values. so when it says

setting $Low
uintProp maxResWidth 1920
uintProp maxResHeight 1080
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600

I also changed the 800 and 600 to say 1920 and 1080. I think I have to go back and fix them, and I'll start with Bon Voyage. I did it with the Pets and nothing and also went to the apartment one, being as that was the last expansion pack released, with no positive result.

Didn't happen to try changing the resolution in-game did you? I vaguely remember being able to do that after changing the values.

My graphics card isn't supported by the game code, so I can only see 800x600 visible. The "smooth edges" option is also greyed out and I cannot change the settings of the shadows.

If I find out which ep folder I need to edit the resolution, I'll also be able to change those values and put my graphics up. I guess that's what I get for buying an ATI card :(

And the change to Bon Voyage didn't work either. I guess I'm going to go back into every folder and change everything. Ugh.

Yeah its a pain but it happens. Just blame the guy at Maxis who decided to structure the game like that.

I did it!

Origin\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSData\Res\Config

That config was the one I had to edit to get it to work. THAT SPECIFIC ONE. Little jerk.
