Did Portal blow your mind the first time you played it?

I do have to ask though in what respect do you think it was mind blowing, dear original poster? The story, the mechanics, or what exactly would have made it qualify as mind blowing?

For me, the mechanics and gameplay. Never played anything else even remotely like it, and i've been gaming since the 80's. The story was nothing special, but was very enjoyable still.

No, because I knew what to expect when I got it.

I feel bad for people that had it spoiled for them. After it came out everyone was in such a rush to join the meme bandwagon that no one seemed to care that they're effectively spoiling the game for everyone that hasn't played it yet.

You're supposed to spend the first act wondering if that voice you hear is a recording or an AI or what. You're supposed to notice the observation rooms being empty and think about what is going on while also noticing that the cameras still work and are definitely watching you...

Not really. I tackled it the same way I would any puzzle game. It was pretty to look at and trying to inject some sort of story was nice, though in the end it was just another clever puzzle game . . . but definitely not the most clever or mind-blowing.

It's fun but it didn't blow my mind. No games really ever do. I was impressed but still...

I played it unspoiled the first time around.

Was quite memorable. I think yes, my mind was blown, for the most part.

The mystery in portal was very cool. The final part was borderline orgasmic for finally seeing more than just a few openings in the walls.

Utterly despise it. For a two/three hour tech demo to manage to outstay its welcome is impressive though.
