Did Portal blow your mind the first time you played it?

The angst of people who didn't enjoy Portal is really amusing me today for some reason.

You people never played Narbacular Drop, which predates Portal by a long time.

I loved Portal, but it didn't blow my mind. It was highly entertaining, and the writing was funny, but at that point, I'd already been watching development of Prey (which ended up canned in its original form), so the concept of instant portals between any two points on the map - and puzzles using that concept - had already been breached. I'd also played Narbacular Drop before Portal ever came out, so I'd actually played around with the portal concept before. All that together means Portal wasn't "mind-blowing"... it was just a very good, well-done game.

I don't even remember the last game to "blow my mind". It was probably back in the mid 90s. I enjoyed Portal and 2 a lot, but "blow my mind"...nope. Nothing does that to me anymore.

I'd say actually loading up and playing Crysis for the first time blew my mind more than Portal did... but I don't think I've ever had a truly mind-blowing moment in gaming. Crysis and C&C Generals are the only two that had anything close to that sort of impact.

Most mind-blowing media event I can think of for me was The Matrix. I'd gone with some friends to see a different movie (don't even remember what), but it was either sold out or we missed the showtime... not sure which. One of my friends suggested The Matrix. I'd never even heard of the movie, but we were up for whatever, so we went. My jaw hit the floor within the first 5 minutes and pretty much stayed there throughout the movie. It pioneered a lot of special effects that were just damn cool, and going into it without the slightest idea of what to expect allowed it to blow my mind.

It did but after the midway point I began to get claustrophobic.
