Uh, brown was Quake's theme color. Unreal/UT was all about more vivid colors - vivid greens, blues, reds, etc.

How can you tell me what is or isn't the first thing that comes to mind for me when I play an unreal engine game? =p

When I think UE I think UE3 and the really muted BROWN games we got early on.

It is when it's unnecessary.
Play the last remnant, it randomly does the pop in over and over on characters just because they got a moment where they weren't in view.
Pc has gobs of memory, there is no reason to keep unloading textures.
