Poll: RPG fans, do you like monster's level scaling or set ?

Set. OOO + MMM was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I've ever had playing through an RPG. Thinking about those Frost Titans makes me shudder.

Scaling all the way...

If I like a combat system in an RPG, I want to see just how you can push the stats...

My ideal is scaling enemies with no level cap. Where monsters are actually reacting to you presence and growing stronger, just as you are...

Saga Frontier Does this Pretty well...

I don't think I can think of a PC RPG that does this in its vanilla format

Slight scaling. Like level ranges. This bandit can be level 5-10. When you're level 1 he's still level 5, and when you're level 80 he's still level 10.
Where something like a demon could have level ranges of 75-150, etc.

I prefer set. Level scaling ruined Oblivion for me. It actually felt like your characters actually got weaker at higher levels.

They did. There's a hard cap on how much damage melee and bows can do. Once you hit max strength/agility, have the best possible weapon in that class and have it upgraded using repair hammers, that is the most physical damage those weapons will ever do.

Meanwhile, enemies continue to get more health.

Scaling within a set range is best.

Meh, I can't even count how many times me and my minions suffered horrible deaths because I went into an area with too strong enemies in Geneforge. :p

...

Crap, now I wanna replay Geneforge again.

Set. I like to feel like I'm getting stronger.

This all the way. Which is just one of the reasons I hate Skyrim and Oblivion.

If you level Enchanting and Smithing, you'll be plenty overpowered in Skyrim. Killing dragons with 3 arrows. It's real dumb.

This is without exploiting the Enchanting/Smithing/Alchemy loop.

without exploiting the enchanting/smithing/alchemy loop your enchanting isn't even as good as the s*** you can find in chests, even if wearing +10% enchanting necklace/ring + normal found potion of enchanting + every enchanting perk.
