Why do elitists hate on the idea of a Gaming Tablet?

#1GamingLabletPosted 7/20/2014 8:29:56 AM
Tablets already cover the multimedia purpose and are easy to handle. And there are already tablets that can run some PC games, outside of streaming(Surface Pro 2+3)

Why hate on evolution? Sure, you can stream games onto the device, but streaming will never replace being able to play the game anywhere, anytime. Streaming requires you have a decent router set up, and stuff like interference and downloading games interfere with the experience

A gaming tablet that even has a laptop gpu and cpu while keeping the form factor of a tablet is far better than a gaming laptop. Gaming laptops can't be held and played, and you'd need access to a power outlet to have decent performance. Not to mention that you need a cooling pad along with it, as laptops tend to overheat without them when gaming. A gaming tablet with decent sized hard drive along with 3-5 hours of battery life when playing games would be awesome. Even if it were restricted to 720p gaming

And unless you've been living under a rock, there are 3rd party accessories where you can hook your controller to your tablet for gaming, or even put the tablet itself into a sort of 3rd party controller to have the form factor similar to that of the Wii U game pad.

Or does PCH just hate on anything that isn't a Desktop?

It's not that we hate the gaming tablet, it's that it's a markedly atrocious downgrade from the Shieldclam.

Was it really necessary to make an alt for such a harmless topic?

I personally just don't like devices like that.

With my desktop if something breaks I can fix it. If a part is getting old I can throw in a new one.
With a tablet if it breaks I have to send it in. If parts get old the only option is to buy an entirely new device.

If I wanted a proprietary device for gaming then I'd stick with consoles. Especially 3DS/Vita for my portable needs. Those at least have a guaranteed life span of 5-7+ years. Tablets on either Windows or Android don't.

Razer makes a gaming tablet capable of playing most PC games, so, you know, it exists already.

It's not truly an evolution because battery technology is so behind.

True gaming tablets like the Razer edge last for an hour before they have to be recharged, and if I have to be shackled to a wall outlet, I'd much rather use a desktop or a slim gaming notebook.

I'm pretty sure the Razer Edge is just a bunch of used up urinal cakes pressed into a rectangular shape.

Harmless? You get bashed and flamed and called a pitiful troll if you even entertain the idea of mentioning a tablet and gaming in the same sentence. it's bad enough with the laptop hate, but the tablet hate is 10x worse.

Why would I want to hold up a heavy tablet with all that hardware inside. Something like that has to weigh 3-5 pounds and holding it up for extended gaming sessions doesn't sound comfortable at all. Not to mention a tablet with that kind of performance and battery life isn't feasible at this point and time.
