Help Picking a Monitor

#1strider2468Posted 7/21/2014 8:39:20 AM
Some weeks ago I came here asking for help on a build, I actually pulled the trigger on an i7 4770+GTX 770 and I'm currently waiting for the parts. Thanks for that guys! Now, I was planning on using a tv I had around instead of a monitor, but now I have other plans for that TV and I want a good monitor.

I wanted a good refresh rate, nice response time, and it must be FHD and something between 24 and 27in with speakers built in. What I had in mind (after some research this weekend) is this monitor:

http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/VS278QP/

I would like to know if people here use it and their opinions or if someone else has a nice recommendation I'm all ears!

Since you don't care about picture quality then go for that one.

It's not my main focus point but I don't really want to be bugged later on that I could've bought something with the same specs I want but with noticeable better picture quality... Is picture quality so bad in this monitor that I will regret buying it later on?

If I were you I'd check out IPS displays, specifically the U2312HM by Dell as it's one of the best monitors out there.

Thanks for the reply, I gave it a quick look, do you know what's the refresh rate on it? Also, it seem it has a slower response time (8ms vs 1ms) and much lower contrast ratio (2 million:1 vs 80 million:1). Care to elaborate why is it one of the best?

Look at the review for it on TFTcentral it'll explain everything far better than I can.

1. Never look at the dynamic contrast ratio.
2. Never believe the response times listed by the manufacturers.
3. You should care less about the response times and more about input lag.

Thanks for that, I will surely give it a look! I guess I will try to find that same spec'd monitor from Dell but with integrated speakers (it is a must I'm looking for).

Don't expect good sound from any monitor.

If you are looking for an IPS monitor get this one:
