Trying to fix/transfer Windows 8 profiles?

#1Bazooka_PenguinPosted 7/21/2014 11:22:17 AM
I have a corrupt profile so I'm trying to transfer the files from the old profile over to a new one. The problem is that I can't do it. Windows won't let me do it at all (neither copy nor paste of the required files) and Linux live disk won't allow me to do it either. I've tried multiple distros and they always hang about 900mb into the 10GB transfer.

Anyone have any ideas on how to transfer these files?

If you always get stuck at the same point of the transfer, it sounds to me like it's more than just a corrupt profile, you may have bad sectors on your hard drive. Not being able to access the data from within Windows could be attributed to permissions, but if it's not working when you're doing it in Linux, I think you have a deeper issue.

It's a SSD and I'm certain it's fine.

I can copy most of the files to a new folder in Linux, it's just that I can't copy them into that new profile folder in particular. Though some "special files" can't be transferred by Linux, for whatever reason.
