Apparently it was funding to get a simple demo off the ground to attract real investors.

However, they were not upfront about this. True or false, it looks bad.

And is.

Explain plz

From what I understand, Unity as an engine has built in "demo" environments, which they are pretending they made on their own. This is analogous to playing the demo button on a (musical) keyboard and pretending you're playing it yourself.

I don't think he said he had no idea who they were, but I do recall him saying something along the lines of those people only marginally being involved with early work on STALKER and were definitely not major contributors to the game or "core developers" as they claimed.

They first said "We have no idea who they are and they are fraudulently claiming to be STALKER devs"

they then later said something along the lines of "A lot of people came to work on STALKER for a few months just so they could leave the company and claim they were part of the core development team later."

Good grief. They just keep on going. New PC gamer interview re: their Kickstarter suspension:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/07/24/areal-studio-founder-eugene-kim-addresses-crowdfunding-controversy-in-exclusive-qa/

Some highlights:

PCG: How does the crowdfunding campaign on the Areal website work? When backers pledge to this campaign, is the money taken immediately?

Kim: It works in the same way as most other direct-to-site crowdfunding campaigns work, with a great example being Star Citizen. Actually, at the top right corner, you can see how much we've raised, as well as our base goal. You can see stretch goals in the store section. Our site is constantly evolving, and we are working hard to make our website as user friendly as possible.

(No clear answer to the actual question...)

PCG: Given the controversy surrounding your use of Stalker assets in the Kickstarter campaign, why are you still using the Stalker trailer to promote Areal on your site?

Kim: Because we have every right to use S.T.A.L.K.E.R. footage for our trailer. If that is controversial, then so be it. We also have a video of our team on the first page and an early gameplay prototype teaser in the gameplay section."

"Yet the controversy doesn't appear to be over. The fund-raising total in the top-right corner of the Areal website that Kim mentioned is not actually a running total at all, but simply a number hard-coded into the page's HTML. It hasn't changed all day."

And this gem...

"We know how to make games, but haven't been as adept in publicity."

No shim, Sherlock.

They should hire me. I can't make a game. I'll fit right in.

But... whyyy? It makes no sense to show STALKER footage. You can say "From the makers of STALKER", and show a few secs of STALKER, but you cannot have it randomly strewn across your video, and putting it as screens and artwork.

Either they're idiots or they're doing this to scam us.

I'm sure if this were a scam, they'd have packed it up long ago since they've already been outed... the fact that they're still continuing shows that they're idiots. I'm sure they mean well in their own misguided way...
