What is the purpose of motion blur in video games? Turn it off.

Sometimes I like depth of field. Not usually, but sometimes it looks nice.

My vision isn't perfect and I always find it odd how much detail my guy can make out in games haha

Yeah, I don't like Motion Blur and DOF either. Granted, I also HATE Bloom and HDR, so maybe I'm just weird. :p

Anyways, Motion Bur was, back in the PS1 era, a way to give a more cinematic feel to some games, but was mostly used in a few scenes. Tenchu 2 used Motion Blur on some cinematic stealth kills, and was an amazing effect at the time. But even though nowdays we have much better ways to simulate this kind of 'cinematic feel', companies are abusing this effect, even going as far as to make Motion Blur always on, not only on select scenes. This overuse of motion blur is REALLY bothering me. :p

I always disable it in all my games now. I also disable DOF, if I can, AA and bloom. ^^

Motion blur, DOF, and bloom I can understand, but why AA?

AA is probably my single favorite thing about PC gaming. Jaggies bothered me on consoles.

AA is only relevant on lower resolutions. At 2560 x 1440, for example, you won't be able to notice jaggies, unless you have a HUGE monitor.

AA makes things a bit too blurry, and isn't relevant at 1440p.

Sorry if I don't reply. It's probably because:

I play at 1080 on a 32 inch TV, so it makes a significant difference for me.

The thing I hate most in games is sun glare...

Please devs, the sun does not need to blind us and make it so we can't see anything if we look in its general direction. In recent games I noticed really bad sun glare in Infamous SS and Watchdogs

Maybe they add motion blur to games so LCD users won't feel jealous on people who have plasma tvs.

It's usually a badly done effect to make the game look more immersive.I usually turn that and DoF off if I can since it usually looks bad and distracting.

I can only recall one time motion blur looked good in a game, and that was Tekken 6.
