Risen 3 - Back To The Roots

If they completely redid the combat to be more fluid and not partially luck-based, then I'm game. Didn't really get into the first one, but the second I'm finding to be quite enjoyable.

They need to remove secondary attacks, so combat is 100% skill-based and tactical again. Guns in Risen 2 were about as lame as always having a companion with you.

... even on Earth Mode.

ADD, no. Where is the thread for Fallout OCD players?

Pirahna Bytes games have always been a bit rough around the edges, but they do have their own charm. It sounds silly, but the clunky combat was one of the things I've found endearing about the Gothic franchise.

I really liked Risen 2. I didn't think Risen 3 was so close to release.

I've actually been replaying Gothic 2 over the past week, and I wish they would go back to that and pretend Arcania never existed. They've developed a really cool setting, I think, in the Gothic universe. I really enjoy the whole idea of the good, evil, and neutral gods. And the idea that Orcs are so big and strong that the only way humanity can beat them is through superior weaponry.

Thanks for the headsup... I too didn't realize it was being released so soon. Purchased. I didn't quite enjoy Risen 1 as much as Gothic 2 (which is a given really) and Gothic 3 but it still scratched that itch well enough. Risen 2 I really quite enjoyed. I just loved the idea of exploring different islands, robbing ancient ruins and being a pirate through and through.

Risen 3 will likely be on par with the first game but even so, I'll get my 60+ hours of enjoyment out of it with the possibility of further plays.

With the Risen 3 PC board here being dead, is there any word on if the retail will come with a Steam key?

Both risens had no retail - they were online only. I assume risen 3 will be the same.

All Risen games have had a retail release here in Western Europe. R3 included.

Might be a regional thing.

In that case, I'd say its a good possibility. It has steam achievements and its pretty rare for a game to have multiple versions. I suppose its possible that it won't but I'd feel pretty safe with buying retail with the assumption I'm getting a steam key.

That's a good point. With so little information about it I'd just hate to miss out on possible good DLC just because I chose the 'wrong' version.
