It should be a cardinal sin to make a full-sized laptop with only 3 USB ports

This pisses me off, a $1500 laptop (that's 17.3 inches) and only having 3 USB ports on it. That's only enough for my keyboard, mouse, and external hard drive, when I've got several more devices.

I feel kinda like laptops already have a keyboard installed. But since you're using a separate keyboard and mouse, I feel like portability isn't what you're looking for, so one of these should more than do the trick: http://smile.amazon.com/Sabrent-4-Port-Individual-Switches-HB-UMLS/dp/B00BWF5U0M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1406522034&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+extender

If you need anything more than a mouse and the occasional peripheral plugged into your laptop, you should have gotten a desktop instead. Laptops are meant to be portable, not tied down to a desk.

If you've got room for a keyboard you have room for a hub

Some roads you shouldn't go down because maps used to say there'd be dragons there. Now they don't, but that don't mean the dragons aren't there.

Mine has 5, and the most I've ever used at once was three. Usually I just have the mouse hooked up, but one of the clients I worked at had an extra monitor I could hook it up to, so I had a keyboard as well, and happened to plug in a thumb drive for three devices.

Should have gone with a desktop if you were going to teather it down.
