Fans could probably make madden 2011 the same as madden 2014 with free mods? No more lazy yearly installments?

Their official explanation (circa 2008) was basically that the PC was becoming an unprofitable platform to develop sports games for.

Take that for what you will. (i'd assume pirating concerns)

Yeh this is BS as Football Manager 2014 is selling phenomenally. I think it's more due to the fact that if they put out one game people would just mod it and no one would buy their yearly installments.

I'm assuming that EA can't sell you roster updates when you could mod your own, and since they can't milk you every year like cattle*, they're not interested.

*Yeah I'm aware they milk cattle more than once a year

Football games are actually one of the few things I still use my 360 for

Disappointing that we haven't had a Madden since 08(and its garbage)

It's weird that they rarely put any sports games on PC. I'm sure it would sell well enough, but I guess there would be some consumer issues like the company would probably do a straight console port locked at 720p and 30fps with no modding tools. Then when it doesn't sell as well, they'd cry piracy.

Modders would update the rosters, which would utterly destroy EA'S yearly release schedule.

So, why do people even buy them yearly?

I don't know why but I can say that as much as I love my sports games I wouldn't ever buy or play one on PC.

Various updates they make to the game (Majority of them just visual stuff like new animations). The most common one I hear though is "Well, my friends bought it and I want to play with my friends."
