Steam Region question

#1Brutal_FelixPosted 7/30/2014 7:48:56 PM
Are there any restrictions? Say I live in USA and go to Mexico? Any issues?

Thanks for the sarcasm. But if you didn't know things like Hulu don't work in Mexico, unless of course you know a work around.

Pesos are approximately 10x less valuable than dollars. And share the same symbol ($)

It wasn't sarcasm

The only regions that matter are: North and South America, Russia, Europe, China, The rest of Asia...

Most everything about Steam will work fine anywhere in North or South America...

Russia gets entirely different versions of games and are priced differently

Europe gets some differences in their games (notably Germany) and are priced differently...

China has some games totally unavailable (DOTA 2 for example... I think)

and The Rest of Asia may have its own limitations...I know there were some prizes given out in the summer sale that weren't redeemable in Japan or Indonesia or whatever.

I think even if you went to China you'd be ok as long as you weren't MOVING to China. If you permanently moved then you'd have issues and I have no idea how it would work out.

I am pretty sure if you own the game it's yours and playable, no matter where you live afterwards.

It's somewhat amusing that region locking is now a thing for mustards, just as consoles have finally ditched it entirely.

Not in all cases. My copy of aliens: colonial marines isn't payable without a Russian ip address.
