Found a used PC - thoughts on performance and price?

#1DuarianPosted 7/30/2014 7:07:55 PM
I found this PC on craiglist, my girlfriend has been wanting a little gaming PC of her own for simple games like Terraria and her facebook games. I realize there is no GPU in this system so i'm not sure if the APU can handle those low quality games at 1080P, I know the APU in her laptop can't.

Specs are:

AMD 5800K
Gigabye F2A85X UD4
8GB Patriot RAM 1600mhz
ASUS Blu-Ray Drive
ASUS DVD-ROM Drive
Corsair 750w PSU
Antec 900 Case
3TB WD Green
30GB Sandisk Cache SSD
Price: $275

The SSD and the HDD are overkill, she will never use that much space. The blu ray drive isnt even a factor because all of her games on on steam.

the price he has is $305.

Would I be able to build something with superior quality for around the same price? I already have a monitor, OS, keyboard and mouse.

Thanks!

Factor in shipping and it's your call.

I'd just go pick it up with 275 in one pocket and 25 in another. Give him the old "this is all I've got" and if he declines give the other 25.

If you remove the Blu-Ray drive and a smaller SSD you should be able to build something new for around that price.

Considering a Transformerbook t100 with an Atom can run terraria fairly well, i would think that could also run it well.

Its not half bad for the price.

Not bad for the price, don't know about shipping though. Toss in a GTX 750 for ~$130 or a 750ti for ~$140 and it would easily play the games you listed.
