depending on your level of comfort with it, you could try to get a key from /r/softwareswap

(most people on there are selling retail keys for 8 for ~$20)

Lol..... I personally wouldn't mind buying from places like that. Only thing that prevents me from doing so is the good chance that the key isn't legit and my system is compromised because of it.

This may only work for 8.1, but I did a clean install of 8.1 using a dummy key. Immediately after installation, I changed the dummy key to my legit 15$ windows 8 key bought during that promotion, and it worked flawlessly
