Morrowind Mods: Where to download, and what are the most recommended?

#1Hitman_67Posted 8/2/2014 11:26:45 PM
I just downloaded Morrowind on my old XP. But compared to MW's requirements it's still beyond the recommended specs. So i thought i might have enough power to throw a couple mods in there. So i figured i'd ask here.

First, i played MW but before it was on Xbox. Now it's on PC as it should of been. But If there is a Graphics mod and voice mod that aren't very demanding when it comes to hardware. The best of them would be something i'd be interested in. Of course i've been spoiled as the gens went on but i'm still an old school gamer.

Other than that, anything would be nice. Make the women look better in the game, secret houses, armors, horse armor >_> jk, better character models, etc etc etc. Really i'm interested in anything.

Also, where to get the patches would be nice to know as well. I found a place but i'd like your guys recommendations when it comes to that. A lot of you are skilled in knowing these things.

Side note: They were compressed ISO files a friend shared with me. So hopefully that doesn't cause issues. They should of been from his GOTY edition though if that makes a difference.

Morrowind mods are all over the place as this was before Nexus came around. Here are a few of the big sites though (including Nexus).

I would recommend looking over these lists for good examples of mods.

Personal recommendations are Galsiahs Character Development and something to fix magicka skill gain.

You can read about Galsiahs here:
http://www.mwmythicmods.com/Gluby/Gluby_CharacterDevelopment_Mods.htm

But if you want to use it, be sure to download one of the two following versions that both fix a scripting bug that can cause a crash. The first one will likely run better, but both fix the problem.

As for magicka skill gain, look here and pick whichever. They all modify skill gain so that you gain experience based on the difficulty of the spell, unlike in vanilla Morrowind where you will only ever gain one exp in a skill regardless of what you cast. Magicka Based Spell Advancement is the best, but it requires an external program to function.

I go for stuff on Nexus. Go through the top downloads and get what sounds the most interesting. The graphics mods are the main thing. There isn't too much that I got to change the gameplay, I got one where all hits count as opposed to melee attacks being random rolls (regardless of physical contact being made.)

I recommend not using any graphic mods. They don't improve things; they change them. Some of the character of Morrowind is lost in the
switch to an obviously unprofessional and generic idea of good graphics, in which the distinction between art style and graphic fidelity is never made.

Well guess ill try it and revert to old if I don't like it. I do get there's a special artistic design to the world though. Just wish my guy didnt look like stacked Legos.

Don't use graphics mods, the game has a unique and awesome look already. And the two mods I always say that everyone needs and they absolutely make the game 100% more playable are "accurate attacks" (YOU WILL NEED IT!) and "real signposts". They just make it so much more enjoyable.
