someone said to me that dx12 is going to improve SLI performance by a good bit

SLI is basically rubbish. A nice way to get buyers remorse. You'll never fully utilize all that power and it still goes out of date quickly.

The lesser CPU overhead in DX12 should benefit SLI systems, especially the minimum framerates
