Crypt of the Necrodancer is the gap filler before Isaac: Rebirth IMO

People need a roguelike to play the hell out of, so Crypt seems to be the game until Rebirth. It's sad in a way. Games this generation just don't stand up for more than a few months, with some exceptions.

Binding of Isaac isn't a roguelike.

Does this speak more about the games or the generation?

It speaks for the games and the gamers. Many many short games.

People thought shovelware was bad on GameCube and PlayStation 2. But I think it's getting to be just as bad on Steam and download services for the big 3 console makers.

Early access isnt a great quality control for Steam and never will be. Then there is the huge percent of mobile games that go on Steam. Several suffer from horrible controls or just being bad in the first place.

With that said, impulse buying has lead to many crappy games being bought because they are $5 or less. Anyway...

Roguelike genre used to be well done, now its looking for any gimmick to be hooked onto it. Music is the example thrown onto Crypt.
