the 650m is a pretty weak card. It's the lowest of the gaming level mobile cards (610-640 are multimedia cards) and it's two generations old. You should be able to play older games on it just fine but its going to suck with newer games. You have a bottom of the barrel gaming laptop from 2 and a half years ago.

I have a laptop with pretty much exactly the same specs as you and I can run Diablo 3 at medium settings with no issue. The problem is that optimus forces you to use your damn integrated card all the time, and it's especially a pain in the ass when DX 11 is involved.

My best bet is that your optimus is making you use the integrated over the GPU. Right clicking on the exe and selecting "run with graphics processor" works most often for me, but it doesn't work all the time, so good luck.

Open your nVidia control panel and make sure the glopal 3D settings is choosing the nVidia GPU.

No, it's not normal. My 650m runs everything I've tried (StarCraft 2, Metro 2033, Darksiders) fantastically. Make sure you don't have antivirus (or something similarly taxing) running in the background.

The 650m is a lower end card these days, but running games on low or medium should be relatively flawless.

Me thinks your 650m card is either not being used, or is having a hardware problem that's causing it to be ignored.

If you're using Windows 7, Right-click on Desktop > Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings.
Older Windows, Right-click on Desktop > Display > Advanced Settings (may be on screen resolution tab)

When it pops up you should see Adapter as the 650m. If it shows something else, like Intel HD, then the card isn't being used.

Silly topic. Of course it's normal, it's a laptop. You aren't supposed to game on them

Ya but hell my old Asus 560M could pretty much max out D3 except shadows and still get around 60 fps.

I'd like to say the problem is just because its an Alienware but its likely because its trying to use the integrated graphics.
