Can a Mobo run off one stick of RAM?

While order parts for a computer I'm building, I accidentally chose the wrong memory. I got 8GB like I wanted, but It's on one stick, not two 4GB like I was expecting.

The person I'm building the PC for is actually OK with this, but I wanted to be sure it's kosher to use one stick of ram.

Yes. Just make sure to install the DIMM in the correct slot for single-DIMM operation.

And if you don't know which, just try each slot 1 at a time until your computer boots.
