"Pick up and play" games?

#1JJkulPosted 8/8/2014 2:01:33 PM
I know that's not necessarily the PC's main demographic, what with every game Blizzard, Crytek, or Firaxis has ever made, but I don't have much time for gaming, and need games where you can have a good session in 30 minutes or so.

World of Goo, for example, which I have.

The other kicker is my peasant PC.

Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Radeon 9800 Pro
2GB RAM

You named some companies with my personal favorite games for that:

Diablo 3: you can run a rift or two or do a full act of bounties in 30 minutes.

Hearthstone: can easily get 2 or 3 matches in that time.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown: 30 minutes will get you a mission or two.

But like the poster above said, nearly any game except a MoBA like DOTA or LoL can work. My personal favorite is ultra Street Fighter 4, but that game requires a pretty heavy up front investment of time to get decent.

Really it's more up to you having the discipline to walk away at the 30 minute mark.

Hey, he asked... hehe

I'm married with a full-time job *and* commitments outside of work, so my gaming time is pretty limited a lot of the time... and even then, DOTA 2 is my most-played game on Steam by at least a 100% margin. The pick up and play nature and average match length of 20-40 minutes makes it perfect for me a lot of the time. Heck, I virtually never play it online either - just in practice mode against bots. But I'm good enough I just random every single game and take whatever hero I get.

battlefield 4.

can just join a server, run around like a headless chicken constantly getting sniped at and then log off 30 minutes later.
