Why do people here hate Origin?

It's more the idea of Origin than the service itself. I don't want to live in a world where every major publisher mandates its own store to purchase their games. It's already inconvenient enough to log into Steam, Uplay, Origin, Battle.net, etc.

If things start getting out of hand I'll quit PC gaming tbh. It's a valid reason as far as I'm concerned.

1. Competition is good for the consumer.
2. So you will quit PC gaming simply because it takes an extra two minutes to purchase a game? Its a very minor invonvience.

It's not really competition though. I see it more as EA and Ubisoft just being greedy and not wanting to put their games on Steam cause they'll have less control over the consumer as far as DRM and such.

charges tax
less sales
now charges the arbitrary extra $10 in canada even though it should only be $5 at most based on the rate
charges console prices
forgets your auto login every update
makes you load battlefield through a web page, even for single player

Don't use it then. It's a free application. It gave me Dead Space for free and some others BF3, I'm about to use it for a free week of BF4. Can't complain about free stuff.

The fact that most of EA's games are mandatory on Origin and have been taken down from Steam is a good reason to hate it. It also lacks any of the features of Steam such as achievements and never has games at halfway decent prices. Combine that with the fact that the client was rushed out and is constantly being updated, and you have to login after every update.

Don't care about using it myself (Even if I do find it pointlessly redundant and/or unneeded and lackluster compared to existing options), and I regularly do use it because I have games tied to it.

Buut...I did find it amusing that in the last email for their "Free" game it says, and I quote:

Get Wing Commander III
for FREE!*

No cost, no catch. Experience all the adrenaline, romance, and humor of Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger for free*, courtesy of On the House from Origin

"FREE!*"

What is that asterisk, you ask? Further down is:
*PERSISTENT INTERNET CONNECTION, ORIGIN ACCOUNT, ACCEPTANCE OF PRODUCT AND ORIGIN END USER LICENSE AGREEMENTS (EULAS) AND INSTALLATION OF THE ORIGIN CLIENT SOFTWARE (WWW.ORIGIN.COM/ABOUT
) REQUIRED TO PLAY. YOU MUST BE 13+. EA ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY AND TERMS OF SERVICE CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.EA.COM
. EULAS AND ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.EA.COM/1/PRODUCT-EULAS
. EA MAY RETIRE ONLINE FEATURES AND SERVICES AFTER 30 DAYS NOTICE POSTED ON WWW.EA.COM/1/SERVICE-UPDATES
. INCLUDES IN GAME PURCHASES.

Ie, fully agree to whatever is in the license agreement next-to-no-one reads and you can get your Free* game. :P

Huh?

Lots of other newer, EA games have achievements now.

and never has games at halfway decent prices.

Opinion, but I do agree. They have sales, it's just that most of us are used to...much better sales everywhere else. Sadly, they control most of the market on their s*** (GMG does occasionally have decent sales, but still), soo...not much option there.

It's EA so toys get thrown out the pram.
Many are too busy tongue punching Valve's fart box.
Laziness and apathy towards signing into multiple clients -v- multiple competitve outlets.
Contemporary pc gamers being contemporary pc gamers.

It's only minor after a certain point. We're nowhere near reaching that point yet but more publishers would gladly do it if the support is there.

A couple of extra log-ins is fine. I don't play that many EA/Ubisoft/Blizzard games anyway. But if guys like WB, 2K, Rockstar and Square Enix start following the same path, I'm fleeing to consoles. lol

Granted that's very unlikely to happen. EA, Ubi and Bliz are huge corporations so they can afford to do whatever the hell they want.

So does steam, it's just factored into the price, and if they don't, valve has made us all tax evading criminals.

That's just not true. Less titles on the store equates to less sales, but if you were to do the math, origin would likely come out on top of that numbers game.

Not the only publisher to do this, and so what?

You mean it forces you to remember your password? Horrible!

Battlelog is one of the best menu systems ever and has nothing to do with origin.

Steam does the same thing and both let you opt out. Both use that information to provide you with a better experience.

The only thing I agree with you on is the price difference thing, which is dumb but with the help of key resellers and/or proxies you can normally save 20% off the american price on day 1.

There is nothing wrong with Origin. It actually provides a better service for EA games than Steam ever did for them, but I will admit this is largely because EA never liked giving Steam the authority to service their games the way they do for everyone else.
