Can't format micro SD card, please help

#1sonicteam2k1Posted 8/11/2014 4:40:32 PM
I cant format the card for anything. Not in windows, not using SDformatter v4.0...etc. It tells me the card is write protected. I've tried several different SD card adapters, USB adapter, I've even tried creating in the registry storage device policies and taking write protection off, and I've used diskpart and still can't get the damn card to format.

Anyone have any idea on this?

Got a a camera to pop it into and try formatting there? Or possibly a cell phone?

It's always possible that the card has just gone bad... that happens from time to time.

Some cards have a physical switch to toggle write protection. Also where did you buy the microsd card? I've heard there are scams with Chinese memory cards that show they have a lot of space when in reality they are worthless.

That switch will be on the adapter for the micro card, and since he said he tried several different adapters, I presume at least *one* of them would have had write protect disabled...

Yeah most likely it's run out of write cycles. Good news is cards are dirt cheap. At least one brand seems to be on deep sale every weekend round here.

Should still be able to read the card, even if you can't write to it.. Tried Recuva?
